Now, thanks to technology, we have global access to virtually everything. Even the availability of international grapes has made wine more accessible and less cost-prohibitive, which brings a far richer variety of wines to your local wine shop. The health benefits of wine have been touted by the entire medical community. National interest in all things agricultural has grown exponentially, and wine, as its natural corollary, has grown with it. But one thing hasn’t changed: to most people who drink it, wine still remains something of a mystery. In fact, to most people, wine is downright intimidating.

My wine tastings are designed to take away the fear and make learning about wine fun. My mission is to make wine more accessible and understandable – to give you “Ah-ha” moments that make you understand strange and confusing descriptions about how wine smells, or how it feels in the “mid-palate” or what it means that something has a certain kind of mouthfeel.

The sheer essence of wine inspires memory and emotion. Ever taste wine that reminds you of newly mown grass in summer? Bread baking or bacon frying in a pan? My seminars invite you to discover the impressions, tastes and smells conjured by wine in an approach that is equally instructive for aficionados as it is for budding connoisseurs. I hold a certification in vintage wine, a certification from the Wine & Spirits Education Trust and am a member of the Society of Wine Educators.

My custom-designed corporate and private tastings bring the party to you along with a unique palette of sensory materials, ranging from sliced grapefruit to slabs of concrete, to identify the aromas and sensations in wine while giving you the vocabulary to talk about it. One wine might remind you of oranges right off a neighbor’s tree. Another may suggest thoughts of new leather, or of licorice ropes and tire tread on asphalt. Afterwards, you might find yourself recalling your unspoken past and be inspired to write your memoirs. Maybe not. But at least you’ll feel more confident talking about wine, and understanding why a certain wine is pleasing to you and why another one isn’t. Knowledge is power. And isn’t power fun?
